The
aim of Step One, founded by Alan Beckett and fellow directors, is
to provide specialist guidance on educational learning styles, higher
education and careers.
Step One was formed in 2000 and is now operating across the world
with licensees in Europe, Africa, South East Asia and India and
associates in most major capitals of Europe and the USA. Many thousands
of students of all nationalities have now benefited from the work
of Step One.
Alan has spent a lifetime in career and life guidance counselling,
helping young people and adults to make the appropriate decisions
to lead fulfilling lives and careers. He has expertise in guiding
the whole range of students including the gifted, those with special
requirements from severe mental and physical issues, the dyslexic
and those with behavioural and motivational concerns across the
globe.
In addition Alan's resume includes:
- Senior management and business development within major careers
organisations in the UK.
- An advisor, researcher and cost analyst to the UK Department
for Education on the formation of a European careers centre.
- The development and launch of an 'International Investors in
Careers' award.
- Negotiation with Middle East Ministries to support the introduction
and development of national guidance services and with Middle
East Universities to support their development of a localised
professional qualification in careers guidance.
- Discussions with Kuwait Government regarding developing transition
arrangements for their special education students.
- Design and delivery of training courses to school staff in personal
development
and career guidance activities.
- The twinning of French and UK career services.
- The organisation of several European career guidance conferences.
